ACMA apparatus licensing

ACMA apparatus licence applications, coordinated and lodged

Our director is an ACMA accredited person for frequency assignment. Tell us about your system and we coordinate a clear frequency, prepare the paperwork and lodge the apparatus licence application with the ACMA for you, anywhere in Australia.

How it works

From your request to the ACMA, in four steps

  1. 1

    Tell us what you need

Choose a service below and give us the details. No account and nothing to pay. Stuck on the technical detail? We fill it in with you.

  2. 2

    A fixed quote

We reply with a fixed quote: our fee plus GST, and the ACMA's fees at cost, shown separately. It holds for 30 days.

  3. 3

    Coordinated, reviewed, lodged

Once you accept, our accredited person coordinates a clear frequency against the register and makes the assignment. Our director reviews it, then we lodge it with the ACMA.

  4. 4

    The ACMA decides

The grant is the ACMA's decision. We tell you the outcome and send you everything you need for your records.

Only tick this if the system trunks. ACMA sets aside particular segments for trunked systems and they cannot be assigned to anything else, so leaving it unticked keeps those channels out of the search. The 800 MHz band is trunked throughout and does not depend on this answer.
A bi-directional amplifier is covered by this licence and needs no frequency of its own, so it does not change the coordination. It does add a condition to the licence, and conditions on how it may be operated, which we will set out with the assignment.

Ongoing service

Spectrum management for your licence portfolio

Already holding apparatus licences? We look after them. We are recorded as your nominated contact with the ACMA, track the expiry of every licence we manage, arrange its renewal, and do the accredited person work when an assignment has to change. You stay the licensee.

Renewal and expiry tracking

We hold the expiry date of every licence we manage and arrange each renewal well ahead of it, so nothing is left to a reminder letter at an address someone left years ago.

Your nominated ACMA contact

We are recorded as the contact on your client record and handle the correspondence, so ACMA notices land with someone who knows what they mean and what has to happen next.

Variations and reassignments

Site relocated, antenna raised, radios swapped, power changed? That is assignment work, not paperwork. Our accredited person coordinates it and we lodge the variation.

Annual portfolio review

We check what you hold against what you actually operate, and flag the licences still being paid for on equipment that came off site years ago.

Renewing is cheap. Missing a renewal is not.

Watching these dates is the whole job, and it is the one most easily lost inside a business.

  1. Renew before expiry The ACMA's renewal charge is $4 per spectrum access, on top of the annual licence tax. There is no assignment work behind it.
  2. Up to 60 days after A renewal request received in this window keeps the frequency assignment and call sign.
  3. After that They become available to other services. Getting them back is a new issue: fresh coordination, accredited person work and the full issue charge, if the channel is still clear.

Good to know

Common questions

Do I need an ACMA client number first?
No. If you are a new or unknown ACMA client, choose the New Licensee service and we will set that up as part of your application.
What does a licence application cost?
Submitting a request is free. We review it and reply with a fixed quote before anything is charged: our fee plus GST, and the ACMA's own fees at cost, each shown separately. A quote can be accepted for 30 days, and work starts when you accept it. Estimate the ACMA's fees before you ask.
Which systems can you license?
Fixed point-to-point links, point-to-area land mobile and base station systems, repeaters, and wide area services. Our accreditation is general, so it is not limited to a particular service, band or licence type. If you are not sure which form fits, or you do not have the technical detail yet, talk to us and we will work it out with you.
What happens after I submit?
Your request comes straight to us. We review the details and reply with a fixed quote and next steps. Once you accept it, our accredited person coordinates the frequency, our director reviews the assignment, and we lodge the application with the ACMA. Have a general question instead? Visit our contact page.
Will the ACMA grant the licence?
That is the ACMA's decision. We lodge an application coordinated to the ACMA's rules and tell you the outcome, but no one can promise that a licence will be issued.
Does it matter which state I am in?
No. Apparatus licensing is federal, so an accredited person can coordinate and lodge anywhere in Australia, including remote mine and regional sites.
What does spectrum management cost?
A management fee per licence per year, quoted once we have checked what you hold against the register. Send us your ACMA client numbers to start. We pay the ACMA's charges for the licences we manage and invoice you for them at cost.
What does being your nominated ACMA contact change?
You stay the licensee. We are recorded as your nominated contact with the ACMA, so renewal notices and register queries land with someone who acts on them. You can start with part of the portfolio and add the rest later. Either of us can end the service with 30 days' written notice, and we then ask the ACMA to record you, or a contact you nominate, in our place.
What if a licence you manage lapses through your mistake?
We redo the work needed to restore it, including a new frequency assignment if one is needed, at no charge for our work. The ACMA decides whether the licence is issued again, and the same frequency may no longer be available.
Who lodges, and who signs the assignment?
Our director is the ACMA accredited person who makes each frequency assignment, and noIM₃ lodges the application. You can check the ACMA's own listing.
